Network 23: Social Pedagogy Research Network

The aim of the network is to develop and strengthen the cooperation between researchers and professional groups in the Nordic countries, engaged or interested in the field of social pedagogy. The network deals with questions concerning the theories of social pedagogy as well as questions arising from the wide range of practices in the fields of education and social work that can be approached from social pedagogical perspektivets.

Some examples of research topics within the field are: possibilities for supporting social integration or emancipation of different groups in the society (e.g. unemployed young people, immigrants, disabled people), different forms of preventive practices in social work (e.g. in school social work, foster care, elderly care), challenges for citizenship education in multicultural societies, different communities as spaces for social education etc.

Dear colleagues,

The annual congress of Nordic Educational Research Association (NERA) will be held next spring on 8–10 March 2018 at University of Oslo in Norway. As part of the congress the Social Pedagogy Network will organize paper sessions around social pedagogical questions. As coordinators for the Social Pedagogy Network, we would like to welcome you to submit an abstract and share your research or field work experiences connected to social pedagogy. It is also possible to present a poster.

The congress has an overall theme Educational Research: Boundaries, Breaches and Bridges. The presentations in the Social Pedagogy Network are expected to have a connection to social pedagogy as a discipline or a field of practice and they can explore questions related to e.g. socialisation, participation, marginalisation, immigration, globalisation and transnational issues, lifeworld perspectives and vulnerable groups.

Online submission for the abstracts will be open between 15 September and 1 November 2017. See the details at: http://www.nera2018.uio.no/.

The Social Pedagogy Network coordinators, by direction of NERA, will present a program based on the accepted abstracts. We hope that the program will be very interesting.

Besides the paper sessions and poster presentations we are organising one symposium and two Roundtable discussions. You are very welcome to join all these sessions.
